Delft Drone Initiative is a non-profit foundation committed to advancing First-Person-View (FPV) drone education and research. Founded by a community of students and researches at TU Delft, our mission is to make drone technology accessible, practical and inspiring for learners of all levels.
Specializing in hands-on drone workshops, collaborative projects, and applied engineering, we bridge theory and practice through designing, building, and piloting drones. Delft Drone Initiative aims to promote technical innovation, enhancing STEM skills, and cultivate interest in aerial robotics or unmanned aerial systems (UAS) -- both within and beyond the academic world.
COMMUNITY
With members from a variety of academic and professionals, we foster a dynamic FPV drone community that thrives on knowledge exchange, creativity, and hands-on exploration of cutting-edge aerial technologies.
KNOWLEDGE
Together, we design, build, and test drones in a hands-on learning environment, guided by the expertise of senior members and mentors. This practical, project-based approach empowers participants to develop technical skills, FPV flight experience, and confidence in drone engineering through real-world application.

What are FPV Drones?
FPV (First-Person View) drones are unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with onboard cameras that transmit live video feeds directly to the pilot’s goggles or display. This immersive flight perspective enables users to navigate as if they were inside the drone, offering a unique, engaging, and highly precise way to experience and control aerial movement.

How are they used?
FPV drones are increasingly being adopted across a range of professional industries beyond recreational use. In film and entertainment, they enable the capture of fast-paced, dynamic aerial cinematography. In drone racing, their agility and speed support high-performance competitive flying. FPV systems are also valuable in surveying, precision agriculture, and emergency response, where real-time visual feedback enhances operational efficiency, safety, and decision-making accuracy.
